A Lie of the Mind

Following FlagShakes’ original live production of A Lie of the Mind by Sam Shepard in March 2020, the company is bringing back the popular American playwright and his familiar themes of love, family, and heartbreak, now live streaming to a computer near you!

Known as “Sam Shepard’s most personal American drama,” A Lie of the Mind is set in the gritty American West, making Flagstaff’s high desert the perfect backdrop to tell this raw family drama. The story follows two families connected by the marriage of their children. After a severe episode of domestic abuse, the families’ lives are changed forever, and they must navigate familial dysfunction and mental illness simultaneously.

The play is directed by Jennifer Vosters, whom you saw in 2018 as Ferdinand in our production of The Tempest. The small cast includes returning FlagShakes favorites: Jason Craig, Jed Hayes, Drew Leatham, Nick Rabe, Suze St. John, Melissa Toomey, Vicki Thompson, and Audrey Young. Local musicians Sean Golightly and Eric Hays score the play with beloved Americana songs and original music. And, lastly, popular local videographer Nicholas Geib brings this play to life with his dynamic film skills.

The play will be available for live digital stream March 12 at 7:30 pm and March 13 at 2:00 and 7:30 pm.
